About This Song
Elohim Adonai — Worship is a bilingual confession built around two biblical names for God. Elohim declares Him as God—the mighty Creator from whom all life comes. Adonai confesses Him as Lord—the One worthy of obedience, honour, and complete surrender.
The worship arrangement creates room to become still before God. English and Afrikaans voices share the same confession: “You are my God, You are my Lord” and “U is my God, U is my Heer.” The change of language does not change the worship; it reveals one heart of surrender expressed in more than one tongue.
This version is centred on reverence and belonging. Its repeated names are a prayerful response to the majesty and nearness of God: all that we are is His, and all glory, honour, and worship belong to Him.
Devotional
“LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” (Psalm 8:1).
Elohim is the name used for God in the opening words of Scripture. It points to His power, majesty, and authority as Creator. Adonai means Lord or Master. Together, the names lead worship from wonder into surrender: the One who made all things is also the One to whom all that we are belongs.
Quiet worship gives the heart time to remain with that truth. Repeating God's names is not empty repetition when attention is fixed on His character. It becomes a way of laying down distraction, standing in reverence, and answering His greatness with trust.
The song moves between English and Afrikaans, yet the confession remains one. God is not confined to a single language. Every sincere voice can say, “You are my God; You are my Lord.”
Reflect: Where do you need to stop striving and simply become still before God? Name Him as Creator and Lord, then place that part of your life into His hands.
Lees in Afrikaans
“HERE, ons Here, hoe magtig is u Naam oor die hele aarde!” (Psalm 8:1).
Adonai beteken Here of Meester.
Elke opregte stem kan sê: “U is my God; U is my Heer.”
