About This Song

Follow the Light is the wise men's travelling song. It begins with the star rising in the east and follows the whole journey — dusty roads, moonlit skies, the long night crossings — with the chorus keeping the caravan moving: follow the light, follow the light, through every mile and every night.

The song keeps the Bible's own details. The ancient words point them to Bethlehem (Matthew 2:5–6, quoting Micah). The star stops over the house — Matthew says house, not stable; these travellers arrive well after the shepherds. They find the child with His mother, and the gifts come out: gold, frankincense and myrrh, laid down with the verdict of every true seeker — "no earthly treasure can compare with God's own Son before us there." And the last line keeps the record honest: warned in a dream, they did not stay, but travelled home another way (Matthew 2:12).

Devotional

"When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him" (Matthew 2:10–11).

The wise men are proof that God meets seekers where they are — even in the sky charts of a foreign land — but never leaves them there. A star was enough to start their journey; it took the Scriptures, opened in Jerusalem, to name the destination: Bethlehem. Creation can awaken the search; only God's Word can complete it.

Their journey preaches in three movements. They sought — leaving home and comfort for a King they had never met. They worshipped — great scholars flat on their faces before a peasant child, treasure opened, holding nothing back. And they were changed — going home "another way", which is what always happens to those who genuinely meet Jesus; nobody returns by the road they came.

The invitation of this song is the whole Christian journey in one line: follow the light, through every mile and every night — because the light of the world is worth every step (John 8:12).

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
We saw a star rise in the east
A sign of heaven's coming peace
We left our homes and travelled far
To seek the King beneath the star

Through dusty roads and moonlit skies
The light of hope before our eyes
We pressed ahead through longest night
And kept our eyes upon the light

[Chorus]
Follow the light, follow the light
Through every mile and every night
Onward we go, faithful and true
Trusting that God will guide us through

There at His feet, our gifts we bring
Jesus the child, the promised King

[Verse 2]
The ancient words declared the place
Where God would show His saving grace
We saw the star and joy arose
It led us where the Father shows

It stopped above the house that day
We entered in without delay
There with His mother was the one
God's holy and beloved Son

[Chorus]
Follow the light, follow the light
Through every mile and every night
Onward we go, faithful and true
Trusting that God will guide us through

There at His feet, our gifts we bring
Jesus the child, the promised King

[Bridge]
Gold, frankincense, and myrrh we bring
We lay them down before the King
No earthly treasure can compare
With God's own Son before us there

[Final Chorus]
Follow the light, follow the light
Through every mile and every night
Onward we go, faithful and true
Trusting that God will guide us through

There at His feet, our gifts we bring
Jesus the child, the promised King

[Outro]
Warned in a dream, we did not stay
We travelled home another way
