About This Song
Like Those Who Dream grew from a prayer offered by the writer’s pastor at the C12 conference on 16 September 2026. Received as a word of encouragement from their pastor for 2026 and beyond, it became a prayer for renewed hope, restored joy and courage to trust God with the work and relationships ahead.
Psalm 126:1–3 supplies the song’s central language. The psalm remembers the Lord restoring Zion’s fortunes with joy so astonishing that His people were like those who dream. Laughter and singing return, and the testimony is directed toward God: the Lord has done great things for us. This is first a song of God’s restoration of His people, not a guarantee that every personal ambition will succeed.
The lyrics bring that remembrance into a present-day prayer. They name the weariness that can make people afraid to hope, then ask for wisdom at work, courage for unfamiliar paths and mercy where bitter words have damaged relationships. The bridge keeps the purpose clear: not recognition for ourselves, but grace made known in homes and through ordinary daily work.
The encouragement for 2026 and beyond is to remember God’s faithfulness, entrust plans to Him and take the next faithful step with renewed hope. The song does not place a deadline on restoration. It invites grateful trust in the God who has held His people through pain and remains worthy of their confidence.
Devotional
Remembering what God has done can help us pray when hope feels difficult.
Psalm 126 begins with remembered joy: the Lord restored Zion’s fortunes, and His people responded with laughter, singing and gladness. But the psalm does not end as though every need has disappeared. Verse 4 asks for restoration again, and verses 5–6 speak of sowing in tears. Gratitude for past mercy and prayer amid present difficulty belong together.
The pastor’s prayer at the C12 conference became the starting point for this song’s encouragement for 2026 and beyond. That encouragement is not a prediction that every project will prosper or every painful situation will resolve within the year. It is an invitation to bring our hopes back to God, remembering His faithfulness rather than letting disappointment make all our decisions.
James 1:5 invites those who lack wisdom to ask God. The song carries that request into daily work: decisions, new responsibilities and uncertain paths. Its prayer for mercy also turns attention toward relationships. Sometimes the next faithful step is not a larger plan, but an honest conversation, a needed apology or a choice to speak without bitterness.
“Not for our name” echoes Psalm 115:1, which directs glory to the Lord for His love and faithfulness. Renewed hope is not simply about achieving more. It is about living so that His grace becomes visible through our work, our homes and our care for weary people.
Name one way God has shown you mercy. Then bring Him one hope you have been afraid to voice. Ask for wisdom to pursue it faithfully, freedom to let Him reshape it and courage to take the next responsible step without demanding a guaranteed outcome.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the great things You have done. Restore our joy and teach us to hope in You again. Give us wisdom in our work, mercy in our relationships and courage for the path ahead. In 2026 and beyond, let our lives point to Your grace rather than our own name. Amen.
Lyrics
[Short Instrumental Intro] [Verse 1] We’ve buried dreams beneath the dust Afraid to hope, afraid to trust We learned to make it through the day But lost our laughter on the way [Pre-Chorus] Your love has held us through the pain Now teach our hearts to dream again [Chorus] Let us be like those who dream Let hope rise where fear has been Bring back laughter, bring back song You have held us all along The Lord has done great things for us And we are glad [Brief Guitar Turnaround] [Verse 2] Give wisdom for the work we do And courage for a road that’s new Where bitter words have built a wall Let mercy speak and let it fall [Pre-Chorus] Beyond the plans our hands have made Lord, lead us where we’ve been afraid [Chorus] Let us be like those who dream Let hope rise where fear has been Bring back laughter, bring back song You have held us all along The Lord has done great things for us And we are glad [Bridge — Stripped Back] Not for our name, not ours alone Let grace be known in every home And through the daily work we do Let weary hearts be drawn to You [Final Chorus — Full Band, Warm Harmonies] Let us be like those who dream Let hope rise where fear has been Bring back laughter, bring back song You have held us all along The Lord has done great things for us And we are glad [Outro — Gently] The Lord has done great things for us And we are glad [Short Instrumental Ending]
