About This Song

There is a strange instinct in the human heart: when grace is offered freely, we want to add something to it. The church in Colossae faced it — teachers insisting that Christ was a good start, but you also needed their rules, their rituals, their secret knowledge. Paul's answer was blunt: "In Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness" (Colossians 2:9–10). Complete. Nothing missing. Nothing to add.

This song was written against that old instinct, which never really went away. We still build gates around grace. We still make the weary earn their place. We still quietly treat the cross as a down payment that our labour must complete — and Paul calls that what it is: setting aside the grace of God, "for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing" (Galatians 2:21).

The sound had to match the subject — dark, heavy, stripped back. A bass riff and an organ drone instead of polish, low voices in unison instead of soaring melody, because this is not a sentiment; it is a verdict. The spoken bridge is the centre of the whole song: "You said, 'It is finished.' So we will not call it incomplete."

And the third verse holds the balance Scripture holds: we will follow, we will serve — not to purchase what He earned. Good works follow grace. They can never take its place (Ephesians 2:8–10).

Devotional

When Jesus cried "It is finished" (John 19:30), the Greek word was tetelestai — a word merchants wrote across settled invoices: paid in full. Not "paid in part." Not "deposit received, balance due."

Hebrews draws out what that means: the old priests stood day after day, offering the same sacrifices that could never take away sins — but this Priest, "when he had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, sat down" (Hebrews 10:11–12). Priests never sat down on duty; there were no chairs in the tabernacle, because the work was never done. Jesus sat down. The work is done.

So the question for today is quietly searching: is there any place where you are still trying to charge a debt He already paid — earning acceptance He already gave, finishing a work He already finished? Serve, follow, obey — yes. But as response, never as purchase. Every good work follows grace; it can never take its place.

Lord Jesus, You have done enough — You are enough. We bring no glory of our own; our boast is You alone. Teach us to rest in a finished work, and to serve from gratitude, not for payment. Amen.

Lyrics

[Instrumental Intro — 16 bars]
[Dark bass riff, low organ drone, restrained drums, distant guitar swells]

[Verse 1 — Deep, restrained vocal]
We built our gates around Your grace
And made the weary earn their place
We laid our burdens on the weak
Then hid our pride beneath belief

But mercy never bore our name
No human hand could make the way
The Son of God has paid it all
The cross still stands
The debt is gone

[Pre-Chorus]
No other work
No higher claim
No second key
No other name

[Chorus — Low male voices in unison]
Nothing added
Nothing owed
Christ is enough
Christ alone

Not our labour
Not our gold
Christ is enough
Christ alone

By His mercy
We are whole
Christ is enough
Christ alone

[Instrumental Break — 16 bars]
[Heavy bass, organ and sustained electric guitar]

[Verse 2]
No human rule can cleanse the soul
No secret knowledge makes us whole
No rank or title earns His grace
We all come through the same narrow gate

Our wisdom cannot save a life
Our finest works cannot make us right
We bring no glory of our own
Our boast is Christ
And Christ alone

[Pre-Chorus]
No other work
No higher claim
No second key
No other name

[Chorus — Stronger]
Nothing added
Nothing owed
Christ is enough
Christ alone

Not our labour
Not our gold
Christ is enough
Christ alone

By His mercy
We are whole
Christ is enough
Christ alone

[Extended Instrumental — 32 bars]
[Expressive blues-rock guitar solo, hypnotic bass, Hammond organ and heavy toms]

[Verse 3 — Music pulls back]
We will follow
We will serve
Not to purchase what You earned
Every good work follows grace
It can never take its place

We do not stand on what we do
We stand because Your word is true
Complete in You, forever known
Christ is enough
Christ alone

[Spoken Bridge — Very deep voice over bass and heartbeat kick]
You said,
“It is finished.”

So we will not call it incomplete.

You paid the debt.
So we will not charge it again.

You opened the way.
So we will not build another gate.

The cross needs no addition.
Grace needs no correction.

Christ has done enough.
Christ is enough.

[Instrumental Build]
[Distorted guitar, organ, toms and rising male choir]

[Group Chant]
Grace alone
Faith alone
Christ alone

Not earned
Not bought
Already done

Grace alone
Faith alone
Christ alone

[Final Chorus — Full band and low choir]
Nothing added
Nothing owed
Christ is enough
Christ alone

Not our labour
Not our gold
Christ is enough
Christ alone

No other Saviour
No other throne
Christ is enough
Christ alone

By His mercy
We are whole
Christ is enough
Christ alone

[Outro — Guitar and organ slowly fading]
All He is
Is all we need

Christ alone
Has set us free

Nothing added
Nothing owed

Christ is enough
Christ alone
