About This Song

One in Christ is built around the declaration of Galatians 3:28: the divisions by which the world measures worth cannot determine a person's standing in Jesus. People arrive at the cross from different nations, histories, circumstances, and wounds, but all are welcomed by the same mercy.

The song does not erase those differences or the many gifts within the body of Christ. Instead, it declares that none of them creates a higher or lower place before God. Pride has no throne and shame has no reserved seat. Every believer stands by grace, belongs through the Spirit, and is joined to one Head—the risen Christ.

From its opening picture of people gathering from near and far to its repeated confession that Jesus is Lord of all, the song is both celebration and challenge: Christian unity is not built on sameness, status, or human agreement, but on the sacrifice of Jesus.

Devotional

“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28).

The world constantly creates ladders of value—wealth, influence, background, education, appearance, and achievement. The gospel brings every ladder to the foot of the cross. No one enters God's family by climbing higher than someone else. All come through the same Saviour and receive the same grace.

Being one in Christ does not mean that every person becomes identical. Scripture describes the church as one body with many members and many gifts. Unity is not the removal of difference; it is the end of superiority. Each member belongs, each gift can serve, and Christ alone is the Head.

This unity is more than an inspiring idea. It shapes how believers welcome, listen, forgive, serve, and share honour. Wherever pride builds a wall or shame pushes someone outside, the cross calls the church back to equal standing in grace.

Reflect: Is there someone you have quietly treated as less important—or someone you believe has a higher place than you? Bring that measure to the cross and remember: in Christ Jesus, we are one.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
We come from near, we come from far
With different names and different scars
But mercy meets us at the cross
Where pride is counted only loss

No throne of pride, no seat of shame
We all are called by Jesus’ name
The grace that finds us, one by one
Unites us in the risen Son

[Pre-Chorus]
No wall can stand, no chain can stay
For Christ has made a living way

[Chorus]
We are one, yes, one in Christ
One through Jesus’ sacrifice
Every nation, every tongue
By His Spirit, we belong

One in hope and one in grace
Equal standing, face to face
At the cross, our pride is gone
In Christ Jesus, we are one

[Post-Chorus]
One heart, one song
In Christ Jesus, we belong
One hope, one call
Jesus Christ is Lord of all

[Verse 2]
The world may measure rank and birth
And tell us what a life is worth
But Christ has made the answer plain
We stand by grace, not wealth or name

Our gifts are many, faith is one
Our hope is in the risen Son
No one may boast, no one may claim
A higher place in Jesus’ name

[Pre-Chorus]
No wall can stand, no chain can stay
For Christ has made a living way

[Chorus]
We are one, yes, one in Christ
One through Jesus’ sacrifice
Every nation, every tongue
By His Spirit, we belong

One in hope and one in grace
Equal standing, face to face
At the cross, our pride is gone
In Christ Jesus, we are one

[Post-Chorus]
One heart, one song
In Christ Jesus, we belong
One hope, one call
Jesus Christ is Lord of all

[Bridge]
Jew or Gentile—we are one
Slave or free—we are one
Male and female—we are one
All united in the Son

Many members, one true Head
By His Spirit we are led
One Lord, one faith, one family
Christ alone our unity

[Bridge – Build]
One in mercy, one in grace
One in Christ, our resting place
Every wall and every pride
Falls before the Crucified

[Final Chorus]
We are one, yes, one in Christ
One through Jesus’ sacrifice
Every nation, every tongue
By His Spirit, we belong

One in hope and one in grace
Equal standing, face to face
At the cross, our pride is gone
In Christ Jesus, we are one

[Final Post-Chorus]
One heart, one song
In Christ Jesus, we belong
One hope, one call
Jesus Christ is Lord of all

[Outro]
In Christ Jesus, we are one
In Christ Jesus, we are one
