Passing Through

Scripture: Luke 10:33. A wayfarer is someone passing through — a traveller on a road that is not their home. That word sits at the heart of this song. We are all wayfarers here: this world is not our final home, and every one of us is just passing through. But there is a choice hidden inside that word. Passing through…

About This Song

A wayfarer is someone passing through — a traveller on a road that is not their home. That word sits at the heart of this song. We are all wayfarers here: this world is not our final home, and every one of us is just passing through. But there is a choice hidden inside that word. Passing through can become passing by — head down, eyes forward, never stopping. This song refuses that. I'm passing through, but I won't pass by. I'll leave behind a trail of love, a holy light. The wayfarer's road is short; what we plant along it lasts forever.

Devotional

Scripture calls believers "foreigners and strangers on earth" (Hebrews 11:13) — wayfarers, passing through. But Jesus told a story about what a traveller does with that truth.

On the Jericho road, the priest saw the wounded man and "passed by on the other side." So did the Levite. It was the Samaritan — the outsider, the fellow wayfarer — who "came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him" (Luke 10:31–33).

Everyone in that story was passing through. Only one refused to pass by.

Being a wayfarer is never an alibi for looking away — it is the reason to stop. Precisely because the road is short, every roadside encounter matters: a place at the table for the broken, one breath spent on His faithfulness, a trail of love left behind.

Reflect: Who is on the roadside of your ordinary route this week — someone you have been passing by? What would it cost to stop, and what might it plant?

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I'm a pilgrim on this road
But I carry what You sowed
Love in my hands, fire in my soul
Every step, let mercy grow

I don't need a crown of gold
I just want Your heart to show
In the hurting, in the lost
Let me love them like the cross

[Pre-Chorus]
I'm not here to chase the wind
I'm here to let Your light come in
This world is not my final home
But I won't walk this road alone

[Chorus]
I'm passing through, but I won't pass by
Give me Your hands, give me Your eyes
I'm passing through, but I'll shine Your light
Here for a moment, living for Christ

I'm passing through, but I won't pass by
Where there is pain, let hope arise
I'm passing through, but I'll leave behind
A trail of love, a holy light

[Post-Chorus / Hook]
I won't pass by
I won't pass by
I'm passing through
But I won't pass by

I won't pass by
I won't pass by
Lord, make me love
Like You love tonight

[Verse 2]
Let my words bring peace today
Let my feet walk in Your way
Let my table have a place
For the broken needing grace

If I only have one song
Let it help the weak be strong
If I only have one breath
Let it speak Your faithfulness

[Pre-Chorus]
I'm not here to chase the wind
I'm here to let Your light come in
This world is not my final home
But I won't walk this road alone

[Chorus]
I'm passing through, but I won't pass by
Give me Your hands, give me Your eyes
I'm passing through, but I'll shine Your light
Here for a moment, living for Christ

I'm passing through, but I won't pass by
Where there is pain, let hope arise
I'm passing through, but I'll leave behind
A trail of love, a holy light

[Bridge]
Let Your kingdom come through me
Let the blind begin to see
Let the prisoner find the key
Let the wounded be set free

Use my hands and use my feet
Use my voice in every street
Till the world around me knows
There is mercy, there is hope

[Final Chorus]
I'm passing through, but I won't pass by
Give me Your hands, give me Your eyes
I'm passing through, but I'll shine Your light
Here for a moment, living for Christ

I'm passing through, but I won't pass by
Where there is pain, let hope arise
I'm passing through, but I'll leave behind
A trail of love, a holy light

[Outro]
I won't pass by
I won't pass by
I'm passing through
But I won't pass by
