About This Song

Raise the Banner is a battle hymn of faith, built on the story of Exodus 17, where Israel fought Amalek while Moses stood on the hill with his hands lifted up. As long as his hands were raised, Israel prevailed — and when he grew weary, Aaron and Hur stood beside him and held his arms up until the sun went down. After the victory, Moses built an altar and called it Jehovah Nissi: "The LORD is my Banner."

That is the heart of this song. The battle is not won by sword, strength, or numbers — it is won because the Lord fights for His people. And when our own hands grow tired, God gives us brothers and sisters who stand beside the mountain and hold up the arms of faith.

Sung by a low male choir like an army lifting one voice, Raise the Banner is a declaration for anyone in the middle of a fight: lift His name above the war. Death is broken, sin is conquered, and Christ Himself is the banner in the sky.

Devotional

In Exodus 17, Israel's victory did not depend on the skill of the soldiers in the valley but on the raised hands on the hill. When Moses grew weary, the battle turned — until two friends held his arms steady. Faith was never meant to be fought alone. Psalm 60:4 says God has given a banner to those who fear Him, that it may be displayed because of the truth. A banner is not a weapon; it is a declaration of whose side the battle already belongs to. Whatever war is roaring around you today, raise the banner — and if your hands are failing, let someone hold them up. Jehovah Nissi: the Lord Himself is our banner.

Lyrics

[Intro – Low Choir]
Raise the banner, raise it high
For the Lord our God draws nigh
Raise the banner, do not fall
He is King and Lord of all

[Verse 1 – Bass Lead]
In the dust where the armies gather
In the heat of the desert sun
We are weak, but our God is mighty
And the battle is already won

Moses stood with his hands uplifted
While the people of promise cried
Not by sword, not by strength, not by number
But the Lord was on our side

[Chorus – Full Male Choir]
Raise the banner of the Lord
Lift His name above the war
When the darkness roars like thunder
We will fear the night no more

Raise the banner, raise it high
Let the nations hear our cry
Jehovah Nissi, God victorious
The Lord our banner in the sky

[Verse 2 – Bass Lead]
When our hands grow tired and weary
When our courage starts to fade
There are brothers beside the mountain
Holding up the arms of faith

For the Lord does not lose His people
He remembers every vow
He has led us through fire and water
And He will not leave us now

[Chorus – Full Male Choir]
Raise the banner of the Lord
Lift His name above the war
When the darkness roars like thunder
We will fear the night no more

Raise the banner, raise it high
Let the nations hear our cry
Jehovah Nissi, God victorious
The Lord our banner in the sky

[Bridge – Chant, Very Low]
Not by power
Not by might
But by His Spirit
We stand and fight

Christ before us
Christ behind
Christ our banner
Christ our sign

[Final Chorus – Bigger, Slower]
Raise the banner of the Lord
Lift His name forevermore
Death is broken, sin is conquered
Christ has opened Heaven's door

Raise the banner, raise it high
Let the saints of God reply
Jehovah Nissi, God victorious
The Lord our banner in the sky

[Outro – Low Choir]
Raise the banner, raise it high
For the Lord our God draws nigh
Raise the banner, do not fall
He is King and Lord of all
