About This Song

Raise the Banner (from The Sound of Victory) takes the moment on the hillside at Rephidim — Moses' hands lifted, Aaron and Hur holding up the arms of faith, the battle turning below — and drives it with a techno pulse. This is not the hymn version: it is a battle anthem for the dance floor, declaring Jehovah Nissi, "The LORD is my Banner," over every fight. Not by sword, not by number — the Lord is on our side.

Devotional

After Israel's first battle, Moses built an altar and named it Jehovah Nissi — "The LORD is my Banner" (Exodus 17:15). Ancient armies rallied to a raised standard; it told them where to gather, whom they belonged to, and that the fight was not over.

But Israel's banner was not fabric on a pole. It was the lifted hands of intercession on the mountain. When the hands rose, the battle turned. When they fell, the enemy advanced. And when Moses grew tired, brothers stood beside him and held his arms up until sunset.

Victory still works this way: won in worship and prayer, sustained in community.

Reflect: Whose tired arms could you hold up this week? And who is holding up yours?

Lyrics

[Intro]
Raise the banner, raise it high
Raise the banner, the Lord draws nigh
Raise the banner, raise it high
The Lord our banner in the sky
From the mountain to the night
Lift His name, lift His light
Raise the banner, raise it high
The Lord our banner in the sky

[Verse 1]
Low drums rising, hearts awakening
Feet on the ground, eyes to the King
In the dust of the wilderness
Where the weary people stand
We are weak but God is mighty
Victory is in His hand
Moses lifted holy hands
Upon the mountainside
Not by sword and not by number
The Lord was on our side
When the battle raged before us
And the valleys shook with fear
There was mercy on the mountain
There was glory drawing near

[Pre-Chorus]
Hold the line, lift your eyes
Do not fear, the Lord is nigh
Hold the line, lift your eyes
Raise His name into the sky
Stand as one, hearts aflame
Lift the banner, lift His name
Stand as one, do not fall
He is King and Lord of all

[Chorus]
Raise the banner of the Lord
Raise the banner of the Lord
When the darkness comes like thunder
We will fear the night no more
Raise the banner of the Lord
Raise the banner of the Lord
Jehovah Nissi, God victorious
Christ our banner evermore

[Post-Chorus]
Raise it high, raise it high
The Lord our banner in the sky
Raise it high, raise it high
The Lord our banner in the sky

[Verse 2]
When winds grow tired and heavy
When our courage starts to fade
There are brothers on the mountain
Holding up the arms of faith
God remembers all His people
He will never leave His own
He has led us through the fire
He will bring us safely home
In the night He goes before us
In the storm He speaks His peace
Every battle He has won it
Every captive be released
We have learned through trial's fire
To be still in Father's hand
He will thunder from the heavens
With salvation in His hand

[Pre-Chorus]

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
His name is Jesus, His name is Jesus
His name is Jesus Christ, and He reigns
Not by power, not by might
By Your Spirit we will fight
Not by power, not by might
You are fire, You are light
Christ before us, Christ behind
Christ our banner, Christ our sign
Christ beneath us, Christ above
Christ our refuge, Christ alone
When the enemy rises, we will not bow
When the night surrounds us, we will stand now
The Lord is our banner, the Lord is our shield
The Lord is our victory, the Lord is revealed

[Call and Response]
Who is our banner? The Lord is our banner
Who is our refuge? The Lord is our refuge
Whose is the battle? The Lord wins the battle
Who reigns forever? Christ reigns forever

[Outro]
Raise the banner, raise the banner of the Lord
Raise the banner, raise the banner of the Lord
Higher, higher, lift Him higher
Higher, higher, lift Him higher
Great are You, God Almighty
Greater than the most high lords
God is great, God is great
Now and forevermore
Jehovah Nissi, God victorious
