About This Song

Run With Perseverance speaks to the ordinary middle of faith—the stretch where the starting excitement has faded and the finish is still out of sight. Its road imagery holds together physical weariness, the burden of sin, and the quiet decision to take one more faithful step. The song does not pretend perseverance is self-powered. Every chorus turns the runner’s eyes away from exhausted strength and back to Jesus, who endured the cross and now leads His people onward. Set in restrained Christian folk rock with a country character, it carries the steady pace of a journey rather than the rush of a sprint.

Devotional

“Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1–2).

Hebrews does not tell us to invent a race or compete with someone else’s calling. God has marked out the course before us. Some sections open into clear views; others feel like a long road where today consumes all the courage we thought we had for tomorrow. Perseverance is faithfulness on both kinds of terrain.

The passage gives two practical instructions. Lay aside what hinders, especially the sin that entangles, and fix your eyes on Jesus. We cannot run freely while protecting the very burdens Christ calls us to surrender. Nor can we endure by staring only at the distance, our weakness, or another person’s progress. Jesus is both our example and our strength. For the joy set before Him, He endured the cross, despised its shame, and sat down at the right hand of God.

The finish does not depend on uninterrupted confidence. God is faithful when strength rises and when it fails. He completes the work He begins, and His grace is enough for the next obedient step.

Reflect: What weight or sin is slowing your walk with Christ? Lay it before Him, stop measuring the whole distance, and ask for grace to take today’s step with your eyes fixed on Jesus.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I have watched the road grow longer
Felt the weight of every mile
Tried to find tomorrow’s courage
When today took all of mine

Let me lay these burdens down now
Let me leave the sin behind
There is grace enough to follow
With the finish out of sight

[Chorus]
Eyes on Jesus, I will run
Till the race You gave is done
When my weary strength is gone
You are strong to lead me on
Step by step and day by day
Eyes on Jesus, all the way

[Verse 2]
For the joy that lay before You
You endured the cross and shame
Now You’re seated with the Father
Far above all earthly names

When I think I can’t go further
I remember what You bore
And the love that held You steady
Gives me strength for one step more

[Chorus]
Eyes on Jesus, I will run
Till the race You gave is done
When my weary strength is gone
You are strong to lead me on
Step by step and day by day
Eyes on Jesus, all the way

[Bridge — quiet, steady]
You will finish what You started
You are faithful to the end
I can trust You with the distance
I can take this step again

[Final Chorus — warm male harmonies]
Eyes on Jesus, I will run
Till the race You gave is done
When my weary strength is gone
You are strong to lead me on
Step by step and day by day
Eyes on Jesus, all the way

[Outro — gently]
Step by step and day by day
Eyes on Jesus, all the way
