About This Song
Tell the Truth begins with spilled juice and the temptation to pretend nothing happened. The child chooses to admit the mistake and help clean it up. Honesty is shown as a step of growth, not as a claim to be perfect.
The second verse brings that same care to friendship: an unverified story does not need to be repeated just to fit in. The song joins truthful words with kindness, responsibility and the assurance that a child can turn to Jesus in prayer when they have done wrong.
Devotional
Truth That Cares
Ephesians 4:25 tells believers to speak truthfully because they belong to one another. Honesty helps people trust each other. It is not just about avoiding trouble; it is part of caring for our neighbour.
When you make a mistake, you can name what happened without making an excuse or blaming someone else. “I spilled it” can be followed by “How can I help put it right?” Adults can encourage this by listening calmly and helping children take appropriate responsibility.
Truthfulness also means being careful with other people's stories. If you do not know whether a rumour is true, do not pass it on. Even something true should not be used to embarrass or hurt someone. If a story involves someone being harmed or unsafe, tell a trusted adult rather than keeping it secret or spreading it among friends.
Try this: Practise a simple, honest apology and one way to make things right.
Prayer: Jesus, help me speak truthfully and kindly. Give me courage to admit when I am wrong and wisdom to care for others with the words I share. Amen.
Lyrics
[Verse 1] I spilled my juice across the floor Then heard your footsteps at the door I could pretend I didn’t know But that’s not how I want to grow I take a breath and tell you true “I spilled it, and I’ll clean it too” [Chorus] Tell the truth, tell the truth Jesus, help me follow You Even when it’s hard to say Help me choose the honest way When I’m wrong, I’ll say it’s so That’s a way that I can grow Tell the truth, tell the truth In the little things I do [Verse 2] When friends repeat a tale at school I needn’t join to sound so cool If I’m not sure the story’s true I won’t repeat it back to you A friend deserves both truth and care So I will choose the words I share [Chorus] Tell the truth, tell the truth Jesus, help me follow You Even when it’s hard to say Help me choose the honest way When I’m wrong, I’ll say it’s so That’s a way that I can grow Tell the truth, tell the truth In the little things I do [Bridge] Honest words and kindness too That’s the path I’ll walk with You When I’m wrong, Your grace is there I can come to You in prayer [Final chorus] Tell the truth, tell the truth Jesus, help me follow You Even when it’s hard to say Help me choose the honest way When I’m wrong, I’ll say it’s so That’s a way that I can grow Tell the truth, tell the truth In the little things I do [Outro] Tell the truth in all I do Jesus, help me follow You
