About This Song

Thank You Parade closes the collection with a march. "March, march, thank You, Lord — clap, clap, thank You, Lord." The verses are one long list of a child's world seen through grateful eyes: morning light, stars at night, food, dancing feet, family, birds, the big blue sky — and then the braver thank-yous too: "Thank You in the darkest night, thank You when I laugh or cry."

That is the song's quiet lesson: thanksgiving is not only for the bright days. Psalm 100 says to enter His gates with thanksgiving, and this song turns that entrance into a parade — marching left, marching right, waving hands in the light — until saying "Thank You, Jesus" becomes as natural as walking.

Devotional

"Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise" (Psalm 100:4).

Gratitude is the doorway of worship — the psalm says we enter through it. And gratitude, like marching, is something children learn by doing. This song builds the habit line by line: thank You for the morning, the food, the family, the play — and then stretches it where grown-up gratitude often fails: "Thank You in the darkest night… You are always by my side."

Paul says to "give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Not for all circumstances — in them. A child who learns to march and say thank You on the bright days is learning the steps for the harder days too. The parade is practice.
