From the album The Night the Promise Came
About This Song
The title song of the musical is the birth itself — the moment every promise of the first two songs comes true. Bethlehem lies still, then the darkness fills with light. Mary holds the promised one. There is no royal crown, no palace bed — a manger — "yet all heaven knew His worth."
The chorus is the angels' announcement turned congregational: glory, glory, Christ is here; heaven's promise now is clear. Verse two follows the shepherds — the fields wrapped in light, the hurry into town, the child found exactly as the angel said, and the road home loud with praise (Luke 2:16–20). And the bridge makes sure the manger is never sentimental: He came in mercy, came in grace, came to take the sinner's place, came to conquer death and grave. Jesus Christ was born to save — that is why the night the promise came is good news of great joy.
Devotional
"I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people" (Luke 2:10).
Notice how God announced the most important birth in history: not to the palace, but to the night shift — shepherds, working men on a dark hillside. And the announcement was not advice, a philosophy, or a demand. It was news. Something had happened. A Saviour has been born to you.
That little phrase "to you" is the heart of Christmas. Not merely a Saviour has been born — a Saviour has been born to you. The shepherds tested it: they went quickly, they found the child, and they returned glorifying God. Good news only becomes great joy when you go and see for yourself.
And the manger itself preaches: no crown, no palace, a feeding trough for a bed — because He was not born to be admired from a distance but to come all the way down to us. Born in the low place, so that no one on earth is beneath His reach. Glory, glory — Christ is here.
