From the album The Night the Promise Came
About This Song
The Saviour Has Come is the musical's finale — the whole company on stage. "The waiting night is finally done, God has sent His only Son. Lift every heart and every voice — the Saviour has come, rejoice!"
The verses gather up every thread of the seven songs before it: the promised light now shining, angels and shepherds rejoicing, Simeon lifting his voice, Anna calling all to give thanks, the wise men falling at His feet with their treasures, the exile survived under God's guard. Even earlier choruses return in the bridge like old friends — "though we may not understand", "our eyes have seen salvation", "follow through the longest night", "glory, glory, Christ is here".
And the final verse looks past the manger to the reason for it: from Bethlehem's cradle to Calvary's tree — He came for the broken, came to bear sin and conquer the grave, the Lamb who was given, the mighty to save. The musical ends where the gospel ends: the promise is kept, heaven broke through — rejoice, all the earth, for the Saviour has come.
Devotional
"The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told" (Luke 2:20).
Luke's quiet closing phrase is the whole album in seven words: just as they had been told. Everything the angel announced, they found. Everything the prophets promised, God delivered. That is the ground of all rejoicing — not that life became easy, but that God proved true.
A finale like this one teaches us how to end well: by remembering everything. The shepherds' hillside, Simeon's arms, Anna's testimony, the wise men's gold, the desert road to Egypt — each verse is a witness taking the stand, and every testimony agrees: His Word stood forever; His will would be done.
But the song will not let Christmas end at the cradle. "From Bethlehem's cradle to Calvary's tree" — the child was born to bear sin, to conquer the grave, to open the way to His kingdom of peace. That is why the rejoicing is not seasonal. The light of the world has entered our night, and the darkness must flee (John 1:5). The promise is kept. The Saviour has come. Rejoice.
