Walk Before Me

Scripture: Genesis 17:1. Walk Before Me is Abram's story sung in the first person. About This Song

Walk Before Me is Abram's story sung in the first person. Twenty-four years after the promise, still childless, ninety-nine years old — and God appears not with a timetable but with a command and a name: "I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully" (Genesis 17:1). The song lives in that long middle stretch where the answer has not come and the waiting feels too long. God does not explain everything. He simply says: I am faithful. I am here. Walk before Me. Carry on.

Devotional

"When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, 'I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless'" (Genesis 17:1).

Notice what God did not say. He did not explain the twenty-four-year delay. He did not hand Abram a schedule. He gave him two things instead: a name — El Shaddai, God Almighty, the God who is enough — and a direction: walk before Me.

To walk before God is not to walk ahead of Him, and not to trail behind in fear like a servant being watched. It is to live every step in His sight, hidden roads and all, like a child whose Father's eyes never leave them.

The waiting seasons are where this song is meant to be sung: when the promise feels far, the answer has not come, and the only prayer left is one more step, one more day.

Reflect: What promise are you still waiting on? Instead of asking God for the timetable this week, try Abram's assignment — just the next step, taken in His sight.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Years have passed, the promise waits
Still You meet me in this place
You do not tell me everything
You only ask that I believe
When I cannot see the end
You remind me once again
Take the road that lies ahead
Trust the words that You have said

[Pre-Chorus]
You see every hidden road
You will carry every load

[Chorus]
Walk before Me
Step by step
I am with you
Do not forget
Walk before Me
Do not fear
I am faithful
I am here
When the answer has not come
When the waiting feels too long
Walk before Me
Carry on

[Verse 2]
Nothing hidden, nothing false
You have seen me through it all
Not a servant watched in fear
But a child You hold so near
Every step is in Your sight
Every shadow meets Your light
You sustain the ones You call
Your mighty hand will never fail

[Pre-Chorus]
You see every hidden road
You will carry every load

[Chorus]
Walk before Me
Step by step
I am with you
Do not forget
Walk before Me
Do not fear
I am faithful
I am here
When the answer has not come
When the waiting feels too long
Walk before Me
Carry on

[Bridge]
I will walk when I don't understand
I will walk with my life in Your hands
I will walk when the promise feels far
You are faithful wherever You are
I will walk through the silence and pain
I will walk through the wind and the rain
I will walk, for You walk there with me
God Almighty, my strength and my peace

[Build]
One more step
One more day
You are with me
All the way
One more step
I will trust
You are faithful
You are enough

[Final Chorus]
Walk before Me
Step by step
I am with you
Do not forget
Walk before Me
Do not fear
I am faithful
I am here
Though the answer has not come
Though the waiting may be long
Walk before Me
Carry on
Walk before Me
You're not alone
I will lead you
I'll bring you home

[Outro]
God Almighty
I will trust
God Almighty
You are enough
Step by step
Day by day
I will walk
In Your way
