The bridge looks further into the same chapter, where Paul speaks of resurrection and what is eternal beyond what can be seen. Its hope does not deny grief or promise immediate relief. The weight is real, but it will not have the final word.

“I won't pretend that I am strong.” This is an honest place to begin prayer. Paul does not describe himself as an indestructible vessel. He speaks of fragile jars of clay carrying a treasure, so that the extraordinary power is recognised as God's.

The pressures in this passage are real. Being sustained does not mean being untouched by suffering, and hope does not require us to hide exhaustion. The song's confidence is not that we always have more strength in reserve. It is that our lives depend on the Lord whose power is not our own.

Paul connects this endurance with the death and life of Jesus. Later in the chapter he looks toward resurrection: the God who raised the Lord Jesus will also raise His people. That hope gives suffering a horizon beyond what we can presently see. It does not make grief imaginary or provide a timetable for its end.

Faithful dependence can include rest, medical care, counselling and the support of other people. Asking for help is not a contradiction of the chorus. It can be one way of admitting that we are clay vessels rather than our own source of life.

Reflect: What weakness have you felt obliged to disguise? Bring it to God without polished words. Consider one person you can ask for support or one practical step toward the care you need.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You know the weight I carry. Meet me in my weakness and help me receive support without shame. Let Your life be seen in mine, not as a display of my strength but as a witness to Your grace. Keep resurrection hope before me, even while I grieve and wait. Amen.
