From the album Let Us Pray
About This Song
The final song returns to the purpose behind these quiet-time prayers: to remember who we are in Christ and that everything we need begins with Him. After prayers for understanding, honesty, endurance and refuge, the EP closes by asking to be firmly rooted in His love rather than in personal striving.
Ephesians 3:14–21 records Paul’s prayer that believers be strengthened through the Spirit, that Christ dwell in their hearts through faith, and that they grasp the breadth and depth of His love together with all the saints. The song gives that prayer a shared voice through its male, female and duet sections.
Its closing lines hold together knowing Christ’s love and recognising that it exceeds knowledge. This is not a claim to have measured God completely. It is the assurance that His love can hold us even when our understanding and words reach their limits.
Devotional
The Christian life is rooted in a love we receive, not a worthiness we manufacture.
Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 3 begins before the Father and asks for strength through the Spirit. The goal is not impressive independence, but Christ dwelling in believers’ hearts through faith. Being rooted and grounded in love is the starting point for growing understanding, not a prize for those who have stopped needing help.
Paul asks that believers grasp Christ’s love together with all the saints. Quiet time matters, but it is not meant to separate us from the wider body of Christ. We learn the love of Jesus as we listen to Scripture, pray, worship and share life with His people.
To be filled with the fullness of God is not to become God or cease to be His creatures. It is a prayer for our lives to be increasingly formed by His presence and character. His love goes beyond what we can fully comprehend, yet it can be truly known through Christ.
Read Ephesians 3:14–21 as a prayer today. Replace the pressure to produce a particular feeling with a simple request: Father, strengthen me to trust the love You have already shown in Jesus. Pray the same words for someone else.
Prayer: Father, strengthen me through Your Spirit. Let Christ dwell in my heart through faith, and root me deeply in His love. Teach me to receive Your grace and share it with others. Amen.
Lyrics
[Intro — Duet] Root me in Your love Strengthen me within [Verse 1 — Male] I bow my knees before the Father Every family bears Your name Breathe Your strength into my weakness Let Christ dwell in my heart through faith When my roots are weak and shallow Draw me deeper into grace Ground me where no fear can move me In the love that does not change [Chorus — Duet] Root me in Your love Ground me in Your grace Let me know how wide, how long How high, how deep Your love is Fill me with Your fullness Beyond all I can say Root me in Your love And teach my heart to stay [Verse 2 — Female] When my heart is tired of striving And my strength is not enough Draw me past my fear and failure To the measure of Your love Where my thoughts cannot contain it Where my words can never reach Let the love of Christ surround me Deeper than my mind can see [Chorus — Duet] Root me in Your love Ground me in Your grace Let me know how wide, how long How high, how deep Your love is Fill me with Your fullness Beyond all I can say Root me in Your love And teach my heart to stay [Prayer — Alternating Voices] Strengthen me within Make my heart Your home Root me in the love of Jesus Till Your fullness overflows [Final Chorus — Duet] Root me in Your love Ground me in Your grace Let me know how wide, how long How high, how deep Your love is Fill me with Your fullness Beyond all I can say Root me in Your love And teach my heart to stay [Outro — Soft Harmony] How wide, how long How high, how deep The love of Christ Is holding me Beyond all knowledge Still I know I am rooted In Your love
