Who is the King? opens the album at the gates. Psalm 24 was likely sung as the ark of God was carried up to Jerusalem — a call-and-answer between the procession and the gatekeepers: "Lift up your heads, O gates!" ... "Who is this King of glory?" The choir sings both sides of that ancient exchange, until the doors swing wide and the answer rings out: the Lord Almighty, He is the King of glory.

Psalm 24 is a question asked twice — "Who is this King of glory?" — as if the gates themselves need convincing before they open.

And the answer isn't a description of gentleness. It is the LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. The King who stands at the gate has already won the war.

Every heart has gates too. Places we keep barred, rooms we'd rather keep dark.
